Saving Sam (Intro)

Samuel Ryan Pierce was born into this world on September 11, 2013.  After 22 hours (19 in hospital) of natural childbirth, he entered the world with a quiet grace, steel gray eyes, and a soft, contemplative disposition.  Yet, when he did finally show up in the delivery room, Sam didn't actually have a name.  You see, Sam wasn't planned.  In fact, we had made the decision to not have any more children not long before Sam was conceived.  The pregnancy was a surprise and took some adjustment.  As we finally started to settle into the fact that we would have a third child, Elisa and I believed the entire experience should be one.  So we didn't find out if we were having a girl or a boy.  In some ways, the idea of it being a complete surprise seemed to fit.  On the other hand, we already had two precious boys and were both fearful that we would
